Spring is happening, so it was a great time to get out and enjoy the sights. This was my first outing with the Fuji 16mm f/2.8 and while it’s a nice little lens, it’s not like the f/1.4 version in terms of it’s close focusing ability. According to the specs on B&H the minimum focus distance of the f/1.4 is 15cm as opposed tot he f/2.8 being 17cm. While this might not seem like a big difference, when I want to get close to subjects with a wide angle lens, it’s quite a noticeable difference. Don’t get me wrong, the f/2.8 is nice, sharp, good rendering, etc., but after owning the f/1.4 in the past, I wasn’t enamored with this lens. I actually ended up sending it back. If you’re on a budget or want something small/compact/quick, then this is a great lens. If you want better image quality and shots, then the f/1.4 is better, but slower to focus and heavier.
