Rhododendron Species Botanical Garden Federal Way

The rhododendron garden was open for free today to celebrate the blooming of their field of blue poppies. Apparently, it’s quite a difficult species to get to grow in our area, and so people were quite excited to see them. There was a long line to get in, but we only had to wait a few minutes to get inside the garden. I was expecting to find a large and glorious field of blue flowers, but instead there were just two small areas with less than 20 flowers between the two. Fortunately, there were other beautiful plants and flowers to look at, as well as food trucks with ice cream.

All photos were shot using available light with the Panasonic S1R and 24-105mm f/4 lens. I processed all the images using On1 Photo 2019.5 RAW software – I’ll be posting my review of that software after Memorial Day. In the meantime, I’m still learning the software, but I’m quite pleased with the results.

The blue poppies, the eighth photo, and the final image were shot using 7 combined images for HDR, but the rest of the images are single exposures.
